Cash for Axe, Again (Updated)

"The first week of December, I will be heading to the Horn of Africa to cover the escalating piracy crisis. I’m working hard to get sufficient assignments to cover expenses, but it’s looking pretty bleak. This is expensive work — costs for me will total around $10,000 — and in recent years the rates for freelancers have dropped by around half. So far, the value of my assignments is just $2,200 $2,800. I’m committed to doing this work, cost be damned, but it’d be nice not to fall into complete financial ruin.

Six months ago my readers contributed nearly $2,000 to help me fund a month reporting from Central Africa. This time around I’m asking for $3,000 to help jump-start my piracy coverage. Donations will help pay for air fare, lodging and a rented satellite modem.

If you value my reporting and have a few bucks to spare, please consider donating via the Paypal button at left.

Update: First $25 received! $230 so far! $320 — 10-percent there! $460! "
