Holy Moly! The NY Times praises a milblog, we're no longer "Stalinists!"

"I extend some apologies to the NYT. I said some nasty things about them yesterday on my blog unfairly characterizing vets as psychopaths. But now they've got this article today, which lauds the work of perpetually-embedded milblogger, Michael Yon. I always liked Michael Yon's dispatches. In a complex war begot with Sunni insurgents, foreign jihadists, crooked politicians, Shiite death squads, dubious neighboring countries, and a confusing foreign policy agenda, it's great to have a blogger who gives us the in-depth stories on what's happening. Traditional media seems to be more focused on that 20-second soundbite regarding who got "blowed up" today in Iraq, wedged between the new OJ trial and weather, of course. Milblogs have provided an unfiltered window into war, minus the political agenda and sensationalism of old-school journalists. Sure the writing can be a little sloppy and unprofessional at times, but the ability to get instant access into what's happening in far-off lands is a modern wonder of technology.
I was a little disheartened to see that Lee Seigel has released a book accusing bloggers in general of being modern-day Stalinists (H/T to Obsidian Wings):
The vindictiveness and disproportionate influence of the blogosphere is a particularly sore subject. Who is it that "rewrote history, made anonymous accusations, hired and elevated hacks and phonies, ruined reputations at will, and airbrushed suddenly unwanted associates out of documents and photographs"? Mr. Siegel's immediate answer is Stalin. But he alleges that the new power players of the blogosphere have appropriated similar powers.
"LT Nixon at VetVoice
OMG they're on to us.

But I have to admit that it feels good to wield that much power at my fingertips.

All I can say is the same thing I have been saying all along. We are not afraid, we are coming.
