Never Forgotten
"I'm on my way home. Finally, after more than seven months in Afghanistan I'm going on R&R. When I get back, I'll only have four months left -give or take.
I should be deliriously happy, but my thoughts keep going back to last Friday. I've been wondering what Flo's husband, Frank's wife and their families are doing and how they're coping with the incredible pain. I wonder what they know and what they've heard. Who is there to answer their questions? Who is helping them gain closure?
As morbid as it sounds, survivors often want to know the gruesome details: how did it happen, where were the wounds, what was it like? I'm sure the families want to know what was done and how people reacted. God forbid I were in their shoes, I'd even want to see where it happened. That will probably never come to pass though."
