PBS to air documentary on Iraq
NEW YORK, NY, United States (UPI) -- Award-winning filmmaker Laura Poitras`s documentary, 'My Country, My Country,' about her eight months alone in Iraq, airs on PBS`s P.O.V next week.
The film, scheduled for broadcast on October 25 at 9:00 p.m., follows Poitras through Iraq in the eight months leading up to the January 2005 elections. 'My Country, My Country' will conclude the P.O.V. (Point Of View) season.
Poitras`s protagonist in her documentary is Dr. Riyadh, an Iraqi medical doctor and an outspoken critic of the United States occupation of his country.
Poitras reportedly was inspired to make the film after reading a New Yorker article by George Packer ('The Assassin`s Gate'). The title of the film comes from the Iraqi National Anthem.
