First new oil well in Kurdistan since the fall of Saddam

"London (KDC) by Mia Early – The Kurdistan Regional Government is delighted to announce the opening of the first oil reserves to be drilled since the fall of Saddam Hussein's Regime, in the Kurdistan Region in Iraq. On Tuesday 29 November drilling began near Shako in the province of Dohuk in the Kurdistan Region in Iraq.

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) made it happen with the technical management and expertise of the Norwegian Petroleum Company, DNO and the engineering expertise of a major Chinese company. The Kurdistan Regional Government has made the site available and are providing extensive support services and facilities including security forces. The Government of Iraq has agreed and given their blessing, and the Government of Turkey facilitated the transit of the rig, support equipment, facilities and other materials."
