Bleak bumblers

"Before the ballots are counted, before a winner is declared, the pessimists are chilling the Champagne to celebrate the failure of Iraq. One such negative writer is the Washington Post's Robin Wright. Her condescending point today is the following:

"Iraqis have elected a government but still have to prove that they can rule. Two Iraqi interim governments over the past 18 months left a trail of political bitterness, rampant corruption and chronic inefficiency, with militias playing a growing role as instruments of political coercion, Iraq experts say."

Of course, Saddam's rule had nothing to do with the "political bitterness." He was an ideal ruler. Look, nobody ever thought the interim governments were any good. But why not allow us to elect a new one before you decide it's useless? Despite some irregularities, the election is considered successful."
