AP sources: Crash kills members of SEAL Team 6
WASHINGTON (AP) -- U.S. officials tell The Associated Press that they believe that none of the Navy SEALs who died in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan had participated in the raid that killed Osama bin Laden, although they were from the same unit that carried out the bin Laden mission.
Sources say that more than 20 Navy SEALs were among those lost in the crash in Afghanistan.
The operators from SEAL Team Six were flown by a regular Army crew. That's according to AP military sources.
Another source says the team was thought to include 22 SEALs, three Air Force air controllers, seven Afghan Army troops, a dog and his handler, and a civilian interpreter, plus the helicopter crew.
The sources thought this was the largest single loss of life ever for SEAL Team Six, known as the Naval Special Warfare Development Group.
All sources spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive military matters.

Anybody wanna bet that one or more of our Afghan 'allies' got paid big for tipping off the Taliban that the biggest trophy possible was headed their way? Hard to believe they got this 'lucky'. Once the bodies are recovered we should carpet bomb the entire province, declare victory and get the remainder of our men and women home.
I am starting to believe your right, been right.
Now what do you want to bet it was a ground to air missile supplied to Pakistan by the US that did the deed?
no not from Pakistan, from Somalia, all the guns we gave to "our side" have gone missing. And I forget which was our side, but it don't look good for proxy warfare. Either do it ourselves, or leave them to their own devices...never arm a proxy army.
I still say Pakistan. I read one source that claims 4 dead Pakis were recovered. Not sure how the know the difference... maybe the convenience store smocks they were wearing?
The Paki military and secret services have shown to have no respect for US and are going to retaliate for the Osama execution. The Army is saying it was just a lucky shot from an RPG, but what are the odds that an RPG would just happen to take out a helicopter full of Seal Team 6 members? More likely a man portable ground to air missile and more likely from Pak.
Facts are leaking out. US sources on the scene and those that have viewed pictures of the scene told the Fox Pentagon reporter that the wreckage shows signs that the chopper fell from an altitude that makes an RPG hit highly unlikely to impossible. They also said that a single RPG could only take out a Chinook with a direct hit on a fuel tank. There have been many RPG hits on Chinooks that survived. The reporter wasn't saying it, but it was pretty clear that off the record, those that know aren't buying the lucky hit official scenario.
If a dozen or so Pakistani Taliban/ISI bases get hit hard later this week, it wouldn't surprise me a bit. Warm up the B2's and tag team them for a couple of weeks.
