Mad Tom, what Comedy Central did was terrible. I was reading the comments at E - LOL, there's like 1300 articles about South Park and Islam out there - because I wanted to see what people were saying at a non-conservative media site, and I'd say about 70 percent of the commenters were pissed off about it. The censorship is insane and so over-the-top that everyone on the Net is discussing it, it seems, so it's functioning as an Anti-Jihad tool by pointing out hypocrisy, extremism, censorship and religious intolerance.
One of the best comments I saw, was over at Perez Hilton's by bintash, who identified herself as a Muslim woman:
few points. not all muslims are crazy. i am a muslim and guess what, my husband is catholic. i couldn't care less and i would never make him convert. and my parents love him too. to say all muslims are crazy and radical is to say all catholic priests are child molestors. but i am really sorry for the creators, i hope nothing will happen to them! it makes me sooooo sad that these people have no idea of freedom of speech. imagine growing up in that place where extremist are from. imagine you speak out against the radicals if you were taught that, you would be killed too!
Well obviously, if she's Muslim and married to a Catholic, then she's not the typical Muslim woman or in the Middle East, as she would encounter her own extremism. Hell, they honor kill Muslim-Christian couples who are dating, but I still liked her comment.

PC is the instrument of our doom. This censorship and hyper sensitivity is supposed to influence who, exactly? The idiots who are truly offended only see their idiocy validated. The 'moderates' who recognize the idiocy of taking offense see the censorship as a glaring weakness in our society that claims to hold independent thought and liberty as high ideals worthy of defending. Before you know it we'll be holding hands with and surrendering to Afghan boy fucking Taliban warlords rather than risk offending sensitive minds by wiping them off the face of the Earth.
Unfortunately the only thing we can hope to do is for people out there to boycott any network that would censers it content just to appease a bunch of crazies out there. If we as the public don't stand up an demand our rights, we are going to lose them all. Thank god and allah that we have the internet or we would all be as good as blind.
Matt and Trey are lightweights in the freedom of speech is an inalienable right crowd--- but they are the kings of free speech in the Hollywood crowd, which is reason number 14 on the list of societal points along the trail leading downhill.
