Not Just Smart, Army Smart

"Today I was on Day QRF again. As usual, we got approved to fly around in the local area to do training while we were on shift. It turned out, however, that another guy from our unit just arrived in country and need to do his local orientation flight. My Pilot in Command (PC) decided that he would take this guy out for his flight, instead of flying me, which was fine. He went to the Tactical Operations Center (The TOC) to tell them his plan, and they said, "No, the only way you can let the new guy fly is if you take The Duke with you, since he is the one briefed to do QRF with you."

"But, if we are called to launch on QRF," replied my PC, "we will have to return to Bagram to drop off the new guy and let The Duke climb up front to fly the mission. The Duke will be hanging out in our office, which is a 30 second walk from the QRF pad. If the launch order drops, he will have time to wake up, finish his TV show, grab a drink, use the bathroom, and stroll over to the pad to stand around and wait for our arrival." (I'm paraphrasing that last bit)

"I'm sorry, the brief sheet says 'The Duke' therefore, The Duke must be on board.""
