Boots on the Ground
"When I was getting ready for my first tour to Iraq in the spring of 2005, I had fully anticipated the worst. I expected to be shot at constantly; to be made a quadriplegic from a roadside bomb; to be kidnapped and decapitated by terrorists. Ultimately, I expected everything bad that could happen --- would.
The question is --- why did I feel that way?
The reason --- because that is how the war was depicted to me by the media, my friends and my family. And who could blame them? According to antiwar.com, there are 4,188 American soldiers dead and another 30,723 injured. Furthermore, US troops are being redeployed three, four and five times. The world’s perception of the United States has deteriorated to the point of resentment. America’s patience is wearing thin, and frustrations are growing with each day."
