Well I think I just saw a nova. I know that sounds crazy, but I have no other explanation. I will wait a few day and see if I see anything in the science media, I assume it will be reported.
For my more superstitious friends, it's a sign, a sign of the apocalypse, to add to the signs they just announced of TV that castro might be at deaths door, so maybe the universe is celebrating with some fireworks

You must spend a lot of time looking up, MT. Don't want to scare you, but have you seen the movie 'Phenomenon'? Have you found yourself suddenly capable of complex mathematics and instantly learning new languages? (my way of suggesting perhaps you should have your head examined). I hope you did see a nova. That would make you a lucky man, indeed. Tell me more about what you saw, where in the sky it appeared, etc.
I look up because I go out on my porch to smoke, and I love to look at the sky and the stars.
Tonight it was before 8:00 pm, not sure really and I was smoking my cigarette and I noticed what looked like a plane approaching, a small light getting brighter, at first I thought it was a star coming out from behind a cloud, but it got brighter, much brighter, so I thought a plane, it got brighter still, again I thought plane?, but it was not changing position in the sky, and since it was so high in the sky, I thought how strange. Anyway I was looking just west of south at about 1;30, 2:00 o'clock in the sky, the light reached it's brightest and then started to fade. I kept thinking, plane, cloud, WTF, the thing is as it faded away it never moved in the sky as if was a lighthouse light. From dim, to bright and dim again, and then it faded out of sight. All in the time it took to smoke my cigarette. As I walked back into the house, the only thing I could think of was nova. I have no other explanation. It also occurred to me, how lucky to see such a sight. Too lucky really, I'm still waiting to see if I find some confirmation. A naked eye nova will be in all the astronomy sites
But I always see stuff, shooting stars, stuff reentering, UFO's, Russian ICBM's, and the third stage following a few seconds behind. Keep looking up.
