Mom Listens To Son's Iraq Firefight On Accidental Voicemail

An Oregon family is dealing with the realities of war after their son in Afghanistan inadvertently called home during a battle.

The three minute message (to listen, click on the link at right) was left on the answering machine of Sandie Petee, the soldier's mother.

Sandie says she heard shooting, swearing, pleas for more ammunition and then someone yelling the word 'incoming' before the phone call ended.

"His friend died a year ago in Iraq and I'm thinking, oh my God, this may be the last time I hear my son's voice on the phone."

She was eventually able to contact her son after several phone calls, and determined that he wasn't injured in the firefight.

It was a look into the realities of war that Sandie Petee will never forget.
