Iraqis Pass First Test in Baghdad

"Good news from the Washington Times. Awesome to see that the surge is going well so far. The next step is bringing order back to the city.
BAGHDAD — Iraqi troops have passed a key test by showing up at 70 percent strength or better for President Bush's "surge" in Baghdad, a senior U.S. general said.
"This movement of these three brigades and two separate battalions into Baghdad to our way of looking at it has gone very well," Lt. Gen. Martin Dempsey, commander of the Multi-National Security Transition Command-Iraq, said in an interview.

"We've also learned more lessons from this one, and in future deployments, we'll make it even better," added Gen. Dempsey, the top American in charge of building up Iraq's security forces."

I think I'll wait before I start celebrating. They have lied to us so many times before about making progress, who the hell would believe them now at first report.

Most of the insurgents and militias have adopted a standard guerilla war strategy. Do not confront superior force and technology directly. Evaporate and return when conditions improve. The situation will improve dramatically in the short term but that means very little in the long term because there are not enough troops for the so called ink blot strategy.
