The Rodeo

"10 November 2006

In roughly two weeks I head home for leave. Think I’m excited?

Both winter and the rainy season have finally arrived. It was cloudy all day yesterday and today, and this afternoon we got some significant rain, along with lightning and thunder. Simultaneously, the temperature started dropping. I think this may be a, what was it called, hmmm, oh yes, a cold front. Haven’t seen one of these in a long time. Apparently when the rainy season moves in, it stays for a long visit. The forecast is for rain for the next ten days. I think going to the latrine is going to be less fun now. One of the delightful aspects of Camp Phoenix, which we’ve never been able to experience until today’s heavy rain, is the fact that there is no drainage around the huts. So we end up with large, deep puddles (OK, lakes) of water scattered all over."
