Republican Senator George Allen
Getting Paid to Make People Suffer
GOP Senator George Allen's Sister Documents Her Brother's Bully Tactics: "He Saw Dentistry As A Perfect Profession - Getting Paid To Make People Suffer"...
Senator George Allen's racial remark to a 20 year old Indian man last week, has re-highlighted accusations that the Senator is a bully and a bigot. Senator Allen's sister, Jennifer Allen, documents many cases of her brother's bullying in her book Fifth Quarter: The Scrimmage of a Football Coach's Daughter. Read the excerpts below.
Explaining why she is scared of heights, Ms. Allen writes that "Ever since my brother George held me over the railing at Niagara Falls, I've had a fear of heights." [page 43]
Referring to George's relationship with one of her boyfriends: "My brother George welcomed him by slamming a pool cue against his head." [page 178]
Referring to George's early leadership skills, Jennifer wrote: "We all obeyed George. If we didn't, we knew he would kill us. Once, when Bruce refused to go to bed, George hurled him through a sliding glass door. Another time, when Gregory refused to go to bed, George tackled him and broke his collarbone. Another time, when I refused to go to bed, George dragged me up the stairs by my hair." [page 22]
Referring to George's early career aspirations, Jennifer wrote "George hoped someday to become a dentist. George said he saw dentistry as a perfect profession - getting paid to make people suffer." [page 22]
Referring to George's habit of terrorizing a Green Bay Packer fan in their neighborhood, Jennifer wrote that the fan's mailbox often "lay smashed in the street, a casualty of my brothers' drive-by to school in the morning. George would swerve his Mach II Mustang while Gregory held a baseball bat out the window to clear the mailbox off its post. . . . Lately, the Packers fan had resorted to stapling a Kleenex box to the mailbox post to receive his mail. George's red Mustang screeched up beside us, the Packers fan's Kleenex mailbox speared on the antenna." [page 16]
The Virginian-Pilot on George Allen
Allen, a Republican, is clawing for his political life this fall, amid allegations of racial, ethnic and religious insensitivities. His 16 percentage-point lead over Democrat Jim Webb in late July is gone; polls now show the race about even. A year ago, Allen was seen as a contender for the White House in 2008. Now he's the butt of late-night TV jokes.
The free fall began in mid-August when Allen called a Webb staffer of Indian descent "macaca," a breed of monkey in Africa and Asia. For a time, the taped incident was among the most-watched videos on the Internet.
A month later, Allen angrily denied his Jewish heritage during a debate, and a day later acknowledged it.
In late September, former classmates at the University of Virginia accused him of habitually using "the n-word" in the early 1970s when he referred to blacks.
A description has emerged of the 54-year-old Allen as a redneck, a Southern California carpetbagger who adores the Confederate flag, and a knee-jerk conservative.
"He's a mean-spirited bully," said Ken Shelton, a radiologist in Hendersonville, N.C., who was the star receiver at U.Va. 35 years ago and among those accusing Allen of using the racist epithet.
Allen was suspended, briefly, during his senior year. He and some football pals spray-painted a school wall before a basketball game. The purpose, he said, was to raise spirit by making people think students from a rival school did it. His father made him repaint the wall, he said.

About that Graffiti Incident.......
Mr. Fiske alludes to an incident in which George Allen spraypainted the walls of his Southern California high school. However, the article leaves out the most pertinent detail. The graffiti scrawled by Allen was along the lines of "Die Whitey" and worse, and was intended to appear to be the work of black students from rival Morningside High. This was for no other purpose than to stir up racial tension on campus before a basketball playoff game. Allen was caught and had to publically apologize. I was in the class and remember the incident well. When I saw a video of Allen using the term "macaca" to belittle a person of Indian descent, it was clear George Allen is still the same bully and bigot he was almost 40 years ago. The people of Virginia have an opportunity to do the right thing and remove this fool from the Senate. One can only hope.
