Legitimize.....Delegitimize

"[...]Yesterday I listened to an interview that the Vice-President, Dick Cheney gave to Fox News anchor Neil Cavuto. Cavuto invited a former U.S. senator from the loyal opposition to comment on the Vice-President's remarks. This former senator continually refered to the jihadist thugs in Iraq who are killing our sons and daughters, and murdering Iraqi citizenry with horrific impunity as "insurgents".

I'll accept that Bush has mismanaged this war to no end. He's proven totally incompetent as Commander in Chief.
But I blame the war on saddam. Don't forget that this war was raging way before Bush ever came to office. Saddam had nothing in control, what saddam controlled was the media, the news, the stories that came out of Iraq and the fear in the minds of Iraqis citizens. That is the only thing saddam had under control. I mean open a book in resent history, saddam destabilized the region way before Bush had any chance to add to the equation.

Anonymous is likely one of the 80% of people who supported the invasion of Iraq in the beginning and then shifted into reverse when things started looking sour. It's sad that people are happy to unleash the dogs of war on Iraqis but then don't have the backbone to see the mission through.

Bush ordered the invasion of Iraq because Hussein failed to meet his obligation of destroying his offensive arsenal in full view of the world. I personally thought it was a mistake to invade Iraq even before things went bad, but that is crying over spilt milk. The US is in Iraq at the pleasure of the Iraqi government and with UN authorization to assist in restabilizing the nation.

Hussein was a tyrant. He hammered nails into people's heads and raped their daughters to keep himself in power. That's not a healthy situation, even if things seemed more peaceful from your point of view.

If you make a comment like "should've left Saddam in power", then you are saying you are in favor of people being treated in the most brutal manner as long as they are subdued. That's a weak-assed attitude and to hold that opinion makes you less than human in my eyes.

Iraq is a mess right now. It was foolish to wipe out Iraq's pre-war power structure. There were more options that should have been tried before invading Iraq. But ignoring the situation over there just so you can feel blameless was a lame option.

Right now Iraqis are worried about whether they are going to have the means to survive and they are fighting each other to gain a better share of the power for their own factions. Without the US in Iraq, that place will become unhinged entirely. The US presence ensures the survival of the legally and democratically elected government. To leave Iraq now would be handing Iraq over the the next brutal dictator that can seize power. Iraq would be worse than it was under Hussein. At least with US support, Iraq has a chance to become something of a modern democratic nation with its people living in some semblance of freedom.

Blame Bush this guy says. I'd bet good money that this guy voted not once but twice to put Bush in office.

The US has a responsibility to Iraq. We abandoned them once before. We shouldn't abandon them again.
