"Just a quick note to comment on the yesterday's violence in Baghdad. Forget what you read in the headlines. The attacks on predominantly Sunni areas are in response to recent purported news of US forces taking on the Mehdi militia.

This is called flexing muscles. Muqtada Sadr who appealed for calm and said Iraqis should unite is behind the recent sectarian violence. Last week, after several Mehdi Army members were arrested by US and Iraqi forces, Sadr's parliamentarians demanded and received an audience with PM Maliki demanding their men be released."
