"Back in February, there was an opinion published at TDN and written by Dogu Ergil. In that opinion, Ergil acknowldeged what he called a 'stark truth of the so-called Kurdish question." His truth was:. . . [W]e have never asked the Kurds what their problem was. Yet we punished them for their unruly behavior until the imbroglio reached the dimensions of an unnamed civil war, waged between 1984 and 1999, that has not yet ended, although its flame has subsided.
The brilliant clarity in that quote is the acknowledgement that Turks, nor anyone else for that matter, have ever asked Kurds what the problem is. On the other hand, we have plenty of examples of everyone else telling Kurds what the problem is and how to fix it. The most recent of these can be found by Yavuz Baydar at The New Anatolian."

One thing to always remember about Turkey, especially with regard to the Kurdish liberation movement, is that it is saturated with propaganda and disinformation.
There is a certain way to interpret everything in their media, and to do that requires a knowledge of the ideologies at play, as well as the personalities.
At the moment, I think the most important thing is to realize that there is a lot of information that is not getting out of Turkish-occupied Kurdistan. I have said before that we are going back to the dirty war of the 1990s, and this is confirmed by all my sources.
Extra-judicial murders are on the rise, public gatherings are cause for arrest, this whole thing about the new anti-terror law is going to be a human rights disaster, and increasing reports of atrocities--such as the use of chemical weapons--against gerilas.
Then they come to Kurdistan and beg Kurds to stop fighting in order to gain democracy? This is a lie.
It is time to hit them harder, especially through mass demonstrations in Europe. It's time to rip off the mask and expose the regime for what it is.
Hi Mizgin,
Somehow this was not the way it was supposed to be. With Turkey joining the EU we had hoped that they would be moving forward and reforming many of their backward ways. But non of that looks to be happening and they are becoming again important allies for our work in the region. Somehow I do not think that we will be twisting their arms very hard. So I see violence as a dead end on the part of the Kurds. I would suggest you guys would be better served by politics, and by continuing to put out the word.
I know you don't want to hear it, but exposing them will be a more powerful weapon than killing them.
Reminder: 5-year unilateral ceasefire. Still no change. Still aggression toward Kurds.
Turkey continues with brutality, but Kurds should lay down arms so that THE TURKS can join the EU? Not gonna happen.
Both the political and the armed struggle have been simultaneously engaged by PKK. It will continue to be so.
"so that THE TURKS can join the EU?"
Help me out here, won't the Kurds also be joining the EU along with the Turks, won't the treaty give the Kurds access to EU courts and EU civil rights NGO's and all the rest that would go along with joining the EU?
And tell me if the Turks are successful at branding the Kurds as terrorist won't that spell trouble with the EU commandos that might come to help clean out the problem?
It is my opinion that for the Kurds, living under EU protection will bring them more freedoms and liberty than they have ever experienced before. And it will also guarantee them equal rights under the law, and access to markets across the globe, education and infrastructure.
