Oil find in Kurdish region of Iraq
OSLO: Norwegian independent producer DNO, the first Western oil firm to begin exploration in post-war Iraq, has found at least 100 million barrels of oil at its Tawke prospect in the Kurdish area of north Iraq, DNO said.
The Kurdistan regional government called it a "major discovery" and said on its website that it expected production to begin in early 2007.
"The Tawke discovery is from the first new well drilled in Iraq since Saddam's overthrow," it said in a statement dated June 11.
"We anticipate production by early 2007, which will allow for the export of oil along a completely secure route from the one fully secure part of Iraq," the regional government said.
Stuff
The Kurds continue to move along while the rest fight over old squabbles. Oh well, but I can hear them now, once the money starts rolling in they will start to scream bloody murder and claim that they were fooled or swindled out of their fair share.
