It's hard out here for a pinhead (journalist)

"I was horrified to read today that the American Christian aid worker, Tom Fox, was found dead in Baghdad. The news of his murder makes me worry even more about the fate of all the other kidnap victims in Iraq, whether foreign or Iraqi.

Whenever I read newspapers, I ask myself who are these people in the media who cover such serious matters as Iraq. The Washington Post’s Ellen Knickmeyer, who has single-handedly insists that the body count in the Baghdad morgue was more than 1,300 immediately after the Samarra mosque bombing, presents Moktada Al Sadr as a moderate.

In a story in the Post today, she still clings to that morgue figure:

“Violence since the shrine bombing has claimed the lives of more than 1,000 people, according to Iraqi and international officials monitoring the deaths, with much of the killing blamed on Shiite militias unleashed after the attack. Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jafari's office puts the toll above 500.”"
