"A New Movement
We’ve heard about Iraq, terrorism, and security from every side. But there’s one group that we need to hear from the most, and in 2006 we will. All over America, veterans are running for Congress as Democrats. They’ve been there, they know the story, and it’s time to let them speak.
Band of Brothers is a new political organization formed to assist Democratic veterans running for elected office. We’ve already identified more than three dozen fighting men and women who need our help to challenge the current administration on its failed policies at home and abroad.
They are all strong, principled citizens who have had enough of the current direction of our country, and are ready to fight — as Democrats have always fought — for solutions to the problems of security, health care, and corporate and political corruption. Some have served in the current war in Iraq, some have served our country at other times. But each candidate supported by Band of Brothers must in turn support Our Values.
Separately, each of these veterans offers hope in one district — but together they are a new movement. As veterans who have fought for America, they will fight for us in Congress.
Mission 2006
This is the movement built on real American values, which cuts across partisan lines, and provides a real choice between a country that works for the few and one that creates opportunity for all.
This year, Band of Brothers will raise three million dollars to promote the message that America needs the voice of Democratic veterans in Congress. Our campaign will air national media spots designed to educate viewers on problems affecting both the veteran community and America as a whole — issues like national security, health care, and respectful, responsible use of our military.
Band of Brothers will recruit, train, and elect a new generation of veterans who can help return the Democrats to the majority in the House of Representatives.
We Need Your Input
We need your input, advice, and opinions. We have developed a short survey asking for your feedback on the questions you think we should ask our Band of Brothers. Please take a moment to fill it out. Your suggestions are vital to the success of this movement; we depend on them to best understand how to allocate our resources.
Please sign up for email updates to be notified about Band of Brothers in the weeks and months to come. If you can help us with a contribution, please note they are matched dollar for dollar. Your support, in any and every way, is much appreciated.
Together, we will make a difference in 2006."

So you would rather keep your standard Republicans that are bought and paid for by Abramoff and his Russian money men?
At least the guy that rhymes with moroso is an American that can legally contribute to campaigns
I would look again I saw more than two that served in Iraq, and least two had bronze stars, I guess that makes then evil fucken baby killers...should be right up your ally..you would think.
Hopefully they will be willing to defend the same freedoms at home that they were willing to defend overseas... Have you heard the silence.. listen you can hear a pin drop, with the Republicans on the take, and spying on Americans you would think people out there would be raising hell, but no it's like the silence of the lambs. They skinned you alive and made a new coat from your tanned hide
"We are still pro-abortion, pro gayrights"
Count me in, I'm for all that.
"weak on national security"
Yea like when we fought two world war, and a cold war, like when we engaged the Chinese and wired them for the Internet (WTO) and all that to keep them busy building widgets, and a space program instead of ICBM's, or all the program to buy up all the Russians spare nuclear stuff and employ the scientist so they would not go work for Iranians.
The only difference I see is that some think that security can only be found at the end of a barrel. While others have a more nuance view of the world. Not that there does come a time to pull out the gun.. but that's not the only option.
And I did not see any anti-war slogans over at that site, did you? Or are you just saying that any vet that runs as a dem is antiwar. There are plenty of us pro war dem out there you know, if not Bush would have been crushed long ago, Clinton would never have been elected, Hillary would be washed up, Joe Liberman would never be re elected. If anything we object to the way Bush has run this war.... There is a big difference between the two.
"Fight then over there so we don't have to fight them here." Is not a strategy. As a matter of fact the resent news of the NSA spying on Americans on the order of the President proves that he did not even believe his own rhetoric, as it turns out that he was fighting "them" over here. The Fucked up part is that now "we" are them. Bhaaa..
Yes I listen to Rush daily, as long as I'm in the office, or if I can bribe, beg, whoever owns the radio where I'm at. Sometimes no amount of money or begging will get people to turn the channel to Rush, there loss.
I believe in reproductive right, which is more than just abortion, it's a complete control over your body and your reproduction. Complete control, no matter what, I don't see it as a religion. And in the same breath you have to add the constitutional protected right of expression, and the 14th the right to equal treatment under the law, which is where I ground my support for Gay rights. All the rights, the same rights as everyone else. I mean which part of the 1st and the 14th say anything about excluding gays.
The expression of you sexuality, has to be a pretty basic form of expression, not to mention that part about Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Again where does it say anything about excluding gays.
"No, I didn't see any blatant anti-war statements. "
Good I was afraid I had missed it. Had it been there I would have taken the post down. I think it's safe to say that we are all for the responsible use of all the nations resources, including our military, and our soldiers. I think your reaching. I at least support the war in Iraq, I do, and did so even though I did not believe the Presidents WMD claims. I think most people are with me on that one. All the WMD rhetoric only played to the Clinton haters, and it made little difference to me if you had a Clinton burning party, as long as you got rid of saddam. But in retrospect maybe giving Bush a blank check was a mistake.
"Perception is reallity "
That's good to know, we will be working hard to change the reality. you can count on it.
"Support the troops, hate the war---"
Where did you see that, not from me, Upset with the handling of many aspects of the war for sure.
"Sure the dems can throw out their defense of the nation by selling missile tech to China for political contributions....."
Oh come on your not falling for that, right, those were very right wing satellite contractors, that wanted to launch with cheep Chinese boosters. Come on how many liberals do you know in the Industrial military complex. It all came down to the cowling at the top of the booster, which would allow the satellite to survive the boost stage.
It's the liberals that are building there own home built commercial cheep single stage boosters for tourism.
"Sometimes nuance will get you hurt---"
Agreed on this point, we definitely gave saddam more than his share, but remember that I do support the current conflict. But war will not solve it all, it also plays into the hands of the enemy. We have to make a difference on the ground or all the war will be for not.
I'll have to drop by TT's and read the comments, maybe I will find something to add myself

Small fry!! aren't you the one that came here and told me that they were hired by the NYT's, if the link was published in just one article they would have millions of readers, or a least hits in a day. I would say that, that would make them a prime target for both sides.....I think your right stryker, your getting old and slow. By the way, you said something about trying your hand at blogging, I'm sorry I erased it before I had a chance to quote you exactly.. anyway you have an open invitation to blog here anytime you want it. just send me an e-mail, and I'll send you the invitation.

I wonder if I can offer this in comparison. Right now on C-SPAN there is a program on Iraqi Kurdistan, and they are talking about how the Kurd expat doctors are returning from Europe to work in Kurdistan, some of them having lived and trained in Europe all their lives.
They are talking about Shaqlawa Iraq, Shaqlawa public hospital. It's a temporary hospital while the new hospital is being built.
I think this is the link to the program
rtsp://video.c-span.org/project/iraq/iraq011706_iraq.rm
if that did not work try this
http://www.c-span.org/Search/advanced.asp?AdvancedQueryText=Shaqlawa+Iraq&StartDateMonth
=&StartDateYear=&EndDateMonth=&EndDateYear=
&Series=&ProgramIssue=&QueryType=&QueryTextOptions=
&ResultCount=10&SortBy=bestmatch
Why the difference in Kurdistan, why are the academics returning to Kurdistan and at the same time you have this problem in the rest of Iraq?
I just posted this over TT's
I've seen it and liked it, as a matter of fact I wrote a Kurdish friend of mine to ask her to review and post something for me here...needless to say, I'm still waiting
I read NG and like the article because it called Kurdistan, well Kurdistan, not northern Iraq
