Columbia Spectator opinion: Veterans Deserve Better
"Veterans Deserve Better by Chris Kulawik, January 18, 2006.
"I’ve always held the radical notion that those individuals who serve or served in our nation’s armed forces deserve our deepest thanks and utmost respect. Apparently, Columbia and the Columbia discrimination policy disagree.
Call it the most overt and appalling case of discrimination that you’ve never heard of. Nearly five months ago to the day, three of Columbia’s most notable “liberals” found themselves at the Military Society table. Amid cries of “Baby killers!” and forceful denunciations unfit for print, a student, both a veteran and a minority, was singled out by the trio. The table nearly flipped, papers and literature thrown about the floor; their violent rant had turned personal. . . . ""

Yea blame the "liberal" for ever crazy out there
If I remember correctly the voting map was purple, it showed a pretty even distribution though out , those stark red maps you saw were distortions, but I guess you were wanting to see it that way so you were easy to fool.
Kids want to leave the farm, so they sign up, we all know this, most blue states are much bigger and have many more opportunities that compete with the military, no big mystery here.
Maybe the code pinker's are the anomaly that identify with the rest of us. I find that war is a very emotional subject and people react for a variety of reasons, there are social issues also. The military is allowed to openly discriminate, many people oppose this aspect of the military, and I also believe that "open discrimination" attracts like minded people to the organization. Some people believe that too much money is spent, that could go towards other issues. Like all the republicans I know that claim that we waste all that good money on the space program, it's the same mindset just directed at a different program. The Military industrial complex is a scary thing, everyone should be worried about it, and it wields an extraordinary amount of political and economic power that has few rivals. The collage republicans should be concerned as this can grow government significantly and encroach into your personal life.
Close but not exactly, what frustrates me is the support for people like castro and the blind belief in his so called free healthcare system, which is of course a myth. If they would only take the time to take a better look at it they would see it's just a fable.
Purple is not the color of denial, it's a fact of life. The election was won by a small margin, something like 3 million votes. that's not exactly an overwhelming majority and remember that the right has the infrastructure of the church on it's side. and still all you can muster is purple.
If you don't believe me about the purple just look at a map that assigns blue or red by county, not state. The red map was done by assigning the color depending of who the state went for, if you look at it by county you will see the light.
I did not say that the MIC was evil, I said that it raises valid concerns.
But it also can be misleading, because the majority, no matter how small, results in political leadership for one side or the other.
But it also shows that there is a distribution of opinion, unlike those big red maps that try to monopolize opinions.
Rep with red? Wouldn't it better suit you Commies?
Not anymore, now it's the rep that are in bed with the commies
The claims that recruiters 'prey' on poor blacks in the ghetto is simply a lie.
I agree, The military offers opportunities, Individuals weight different opportunities and make career decisions.
Do you honestly think that the tendency of the military to be more conservative can be attributed in any significant way to 'don't ask don't tell'?
Not with that narrow a focus. The military discriminates on different levels, some are necessary, some seem more frivolous. as a simple example they exclude women from front line combat, or a big strong guy is preferred over a small week guy. My discussion about discrimination was in more general terms. But different people will focus on what they perceive as an "offense", and this adds to thier objections about the military.
there are plenty of gays in the military according to what I have been told.
My point exactly
But there are significant consequences to the closet policy.
Finally, you complain of the church giving the Reps an unfair advantage?
I did no such thing, I highlighted an existing infrastructure. I know that on our side, we have also seen the "light" of taking advantage of the same. Live and learn.
They say all thinking people must be liberal, it's not our fault we make up a large part of the media.
