Suicide Bomber Strikes Near Baghdad Hotel

"BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - A suicide car bomber detonated his explosives-laden BMW in the center of the capital Thursday, targeting a passing convoy of private American security agents - the second attack in a week near the heavily fortified Sadir Hotel.

An Iraqi police official said one passer-by was injured but no one in the convoy was hurt in the explosion, which sent a huge plume of smoke into the sky in Baghdad's busy Karradah neighborhood, a main shopping and commercial district.

A car bombing near the hotel on Friday killed an Iraqi security guard and wounded two others. The Sadir Hotel is used by foreign security agents and other Westerners involved in reconstruction in Iraq."
