Iraq's descent into bombing quagmire

"Here in Baghdad, it's beginning to feel like a critical moment.

In the last week this city has seen 22 car bombs, with 10 on a single day - last Friday. Not far from Baghdad, at Musayyib, between Hilla and Karbala, nearly 100 Shia Muslims were killed.

The shadowy resistance movements seem to be operating on a new and much more ambitious level."

I'm British, and I'm a fan of the BBC, but I find their use of the word "resistance" to be in bad taste.

Well in this case the story is about the resistance and not exactly the terrorist. I know they have been confusing the two for so long now that they may not even know the difference any more. Anyway the story today is about the internal power struggles that we are starting to see.
I think that this unfair constitution is adding fuel to the fire. For one small groups that might have stayed out if it so far now have an incentive to get in the fight, and the religious authorities want to consolidate their power, and bring in any free lancers out of the cold. Then you have the secularist who have been betrayed, and now have no other option but to fight tot he death, or submit. Why should they hold back if reason will never prevail.

So I think we can give the BBC this one. But be ready and get out your copy of 1984, because before long the government will be the terrorist and the terrorist will be the resistance. just give it time.
