Constitution amended to state “Iraq is an active member in Arab League”

"Baghdad (VOI) By Adel Fakher – Printing the draft Iraqi constitution will start on Thursday for distribution on voters before the referendum to be held on Oct. 15 after amending one clause to state that Iraq is “part of the Islamic world and an active member of the Arab League,” informed sources said.

Iraqi President Talabani told a press conference on Wednesday that a certain formula was agreed for the draft constitution to make it satisfactory to the Arab League.
Prime Minister Ibrahim el-Jaafary also told a press conference on Wednesday: “The constitution is considered done and its draft will be printed in a final and conclusive way.”

Jaafary said the amended clause on Iraq identity is satisfactory to all components of Iraqi people including the Kurds, Turkmen and Chaldo-Assyrians.
Jaafary expected the different political parties to give concessions to surpass disagreements, accept the draft and lobby public support for constitution in the referendum."
