Unscheduled Milblog meet up

"I’ve been corresponding with Da Goddess off and on for a couple of months and we’ve constantly been saying to each other, “we need to meet up and have a beer.” Yesterday she says “How's Tuesday sound for dinner?”

“Sounds pretty good, my fiancée is pulling into town this afternoon”

She adds that the world famous Smash’s will be joining us and I dropped an invite to Kevin from Primary Main Objective. Suddenly we have a mini blog meet."

From the looks of it, this might be your last.

Hi Sean,

My comment was in reference to the new blogging rules being implemented. They are likely to have chilling effect on any prospective new bloggers contemplating starting a new blog. So what I was saying was that your pool perspective people to meet up with is likely to shrink.
And I was seriously pissed off at the time.

As long as I have your attention, would you comment on the new rules, have you registered your site with your command.
And if you do/have registered, will you add a statement to your disclaimer to that effect?

You only have to register your site when you're deployed forward and yes my command knows about it, they're regular viewers of both of my sites. When I was over there the last two time, I cleared all of my pictures through the base PAO, I might have been then only blogger doing that at the time and had full command approval. The people that have got canned, I can tell you exactly when and what they did right when they did it. My stuff was fairly vague, never wrote about the exact place that I was at nor stepped on any toes, if I wrote about someone, I let them read it first.

Sean,

I want to thank you for your candid response. I know this is a sensitive issue, and I of course have nothing against people checking stuff out before posting. Lets face it security is a priority on a battle field. My only concern with this new policy is that it will be used to control information outside the realm of security, and that it might also reduce the trust that people put in milblogs if they believe that the blog is just another outlet for the official position on an issue and not the thoughts and opinions of the blogger himself.
As you must be aware for many of us here state side blogs are our only alternative to the MSM. And we hope that we can continue to count on the blogs to bring us news from the front that is not edited to fit within some agenda or political parties talking points. It's a big order, yet the milblogs have been doing just that till now. Let's hope they will be able to continue.

I thank you again for taking the time.
