Container with low radiation in Belgium port
BRUSSELS (AP) - Authorities say they have found a container hailing from Japan in Zeebrugge harbor with low radiation levels.
Authorities said late Tuesday the increased levels of 137-Cesium radiation in the immediate vicinity of the container posed no threat to harbor workers or the immediate environment.
Belgium's nuclear control agency FANC said that the container itself was contaminated, not the equipment inside. It said that even though the levels were higher than normal, they were still below the safety threshold set for the population.
It said the container left the Japanese port of Yokohama on March 16.
