Petraeus says troops must mobilize in Afghanistan
LOUSIVILLE, Ky. -- The commander of the U.S. Central Command told a Louisville audience that American troops must keep mobilizing in Afghanistan to keep extremists from controlling the country.
Gen. David Petraeus spoke Friday at an Armed Forces Day dinner on the same day that Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai visited with troops at Fort Campbell.
WDRB-TV reported that Petraeus warned that the situation in Afghanistan was going to get harder before it improves, just like in Iraq.
He said the additional troops going in this year will create the right mix to support Afghan military and police forces.
