Big News Out Of Iraq

Iran Wins Iran Wins Iran Wins

Take That Bush And Obama... Cr: Party Poopers

Reidar Visser
has the gory details on Iran's brilliant end run. How's that democracy-building coming along Mad Tom? LOL.

Ever since the provincial elections in January 2009, Iran has worked steadfastly [PDF] to revive the then-defunct United Iraqi Alliance (UIA), the sectarian Shiite alliance that was created back in 2004 and that largely collapsed in 2007. After Ahmad Chalabi played an initial role in bringing the Sadrists and ISCI back together in the first part of 2009, the final reunification took place Tuesday night in Baghdad when the State of Law list headed by Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki joined the other Shiites to form a single parliamentary bloc. The successful revival of the de-Baathification agenda was probably the key factor in destroying the promising tendencies of a more nationalist and less sectarian approach by Maliki in 2009.

Few details about the reunion have been published so far (and notably no PM candidate), but it is known that it was held at the house of Ibrahim al-Jaafari. Jaafari came out with the best result in the informal Sadrist referendum for the next prime minister that was held earlier.

This was all very predictable, Mad Tom. I mentioned weeks ago at ITM, that I expected the two Shia parties to form a government.

Big win by Iran. LOL.

I was thinking the exact same thing, but on the other side I have to wonder what the Iraqi people that voted in that election are thinking...

MG the Democracy building is going, maybe not as planed, but it's got to be going in the minds of everyday Iraqis that see the not so hidden hand playing them for fools.

Mad Tom,
The problem is once again the majority of Iraqis voted for the Shia fundamentalists. This is what, the 4th election in a row they've done that? Yes, Allawi's party finished first, but the two Shia parties have many more seats combined and thus can easily form a government. I'm not sure how people are fooled if the majority of them voted for the fundies?

Yeah, the 30 percent of those who voted Secular will be pissed off and LOL, prepare for a savage beat down by Layla Anwar - boy, she's going to go nuclear, LOL.

Any ways, with the US departing Iraq, Iran's influence will only grow and this election result was a great geo-political win by them for sure. That's the saddest thing.
US does the dirty work; Iran reaps the benefits.

Oh LOL, can't wait to read the next Debbie Schussel column on Iraq - she'll be on the warpath too.

Hey, independent Crist is ahead of Rubio in the polls. Got to work your magic again. )))
