Judge Andrew Napolitano Natural rights Patriot Act - Part 3 of 3

And you said no one had been harmed

I don't remember saying no one was harmed. I think I said there were no widespread abuses being reported. The Judge said a case was filed and dropped on the 'gag' order (which happens all the time and did before the Patriot Act, though this does go further). And the first time they try to put someone on trial for that violation, there will be a line of legal foundations wanting to represent the defendant, unless that defendant is known to be a bad guy in which case the line will be shorter, but there will still be one. It sounds like a bogus law, but until it's used in a bogus manner it will stand.

And the abuse needs to be widespread before it should bother us? I think one is too many. And can you imagine how intimidating it must be to be hit with such a warrant, and just how much power the government wields over all our lives with this abomination, all courtesy of the Republican party. If you ask me all the law makers that voted for it should be charged treason and shot.

The judge was being overly dramatic. There are lots of cases where one can be charged for 'telling the truth'. That isn't new.

One is too many? Innocent people are charged with violations of every law every day--- do we drop all laws? That's why we have trials.

I don't like it either, but like I said, if they ever actually try someone that isn't wrong for violating that law, the civil rights lawyers will trample one another trying to get the case.

When you come up with a case where an innocent person was convicted for revealing they were served a warrant, you will have made your point.

Complacency, that's how they get you.
