"When asked about the prospects for victory in Afghanistan, Martha Coakley had this to say:

"I think we have done what we are going to be able to do in Afghanistan. I think that we should plan an exit strategy. Yes. I'm not sure there is a way to succeed. If the goal was and the mission in Afghanistan was to go in because we believed that the Taliban was giving harbor to terrorists. We supported that. I supported that. They're gone. They're not there anymore."

Aside from the defeatism that is suggested by wanting an exit strategy short of victory,"

I don't agree with her. Show me where I said such things. I said if we aren't going to treat this like war, but instead make nice until 2011 when we bug out so O can declare victory, then it's time to get out. Unless we want to send 100,000 more troops and bring down death and destruction on all those that oppose our interests-- and any who tolerate them--- then it's pointless. I didn't hear her say that, did you?

I heard defeatism, and it sounds the same to me.

Not to mention the pointlessness of trying something over and over again and expecting a different result.

WE haven't tried what I'm talking about since Dresden and Nagasaki, both of them very instrumental episodes in unambiguously successful operations.

I am going to inflict all out war against those who think our destruction or subjugation is a positive development. If you have a couple of pimple faced guys in their underwear blogging 'kill the great satan' in your neighborhood, you better lock them up or prepare to suffer death and destruction. Fundamentalist Islam must go the way of Shintoism and Nazism. You won't ever get rid of it entirely, but it won't be tolerated or admired. It will be feared like the plague cuz it will get you and your family killed if it's in your neighborhood. That has to be ingrained in the DNA and you do that by weeding out some folks.

The Russians pussied out. Dresden was complete annihilation and broke the German people's desire to be feared and served ever again. How is Chechnya even remotely comparable? Do you know what I mean when I say 'Dresden'?

People are funny. WE talk about barbarity or our enemies, but we have done some really barbaric things that we manage to mythologize and practically worship. That's what successful societies get to do. Still, mankind is no better than they were when the Romans lined the roads with crucified 'malcontents'. If you believe you have the 'answer', you better be prepared to get challenged and deal with it. They did it in the name of the Empire, we should do it in the name of Liberty. If you wish to harm and subjugate free people, you are a failed evolutionary experiment, to continue a theme. Of course, we need to give that ideology some attention here at home before getting too uppity on the subject, which is a lesson the Romans should have learned.

The Russians flattened the capital, whatever its called, they raised it to the ground. Big deal, they did not accomplish a damn thing. They even tried in Afghanistan, but they had nothing to offer, trade one dictator for another. What a choice, do you take the Islamic dictator you know, or the atheist dictator you don't understand? Fails every time it's been tried. look if you want to the Romans, they tried fighting ideas with swords, they failed. You can only fight an idea with a another idea. And you can only share your idea when you get a chance to sit and chat a while.
