Leaving Camp Phoenix and my new home
"We packed up all of our equipments, bags, uniforms, etc and vacated Tent #4. As you can see from the picture, we were issued flight suits until we can get the new fire retardant uniforms
I’m not sure what the flyers see in these baggy uniforms, but I will wear it as required. Perhaps I’m just an old sergeant who enjoys his uniform and displaying his stripes.
Anyhow, now we hurry up and wait for another trip in the Rhino. This will be the last time we are passengers, because in the future we will be driving our own vehicles and conducting our own patrols and convoys. I was a bit surprised we were traveling at dusk and then dark. But with our armed escorts we were in good hands. It was a little bit hard to decipher the landscape through the thick glass windows at night, but it seemed to transform from urban life to that of a rural setting."
