A True Afghan Hero
"I met an Afghan hero yesterday. He’s only got seven fingers, he’s not bulletproof and he probably doesn’t move too fast anymore, but he’s got heart and he’s got attitude. He thinks he’s made of steel.
Cordero, Dean and I are out working with a group of police officers from Eastern Afghanistan. These guys live close to the Pakistani border, in and around the districts that still struggle daily to maintain their independence from the Taliban.
Most have seen combat during their time as police officers. Many tell stories of guerilla type fighting against the Taliban in the more rural parts of their villages and some relate tales of brutal urban assaults they’ve defended on checkpoints, markets and prominent buildings by that same enemy."
