U.S. Navy to Obama: Never Mind the Littorals, More Battleships, Please


"When it comes to the U.S. Navy, President Barack Obama has promised to “invest in smaller, more capable ships, providing the agility to operate close to shore and the reach to rapidly deploy Marines to global crises.” That means more amphibious ships, catamarans and Littoral Combat Ships, right?

So why does the Navy’s proposed new 30-year shipbuilding plan, glimpsed by naval analyst Galrahn, contain “FOUR of the most powerful surface combatants ever built in human history … prepared to defend every square inch of the oceans the U.S. Navy sails from a potential future threat by China, not to mention invasion from outer space.”
