"This post is a response to all of the e-mails I’ve received regarding my thoughts on what not to bring for an adventure in Afghanistan (Save Your Money Rambo). The tips that follow apply to all service members that will have the pleasure of training at Fort Riley, Kansas though, not just my Navy brethren.
Dear Nervous About Deploying,
Excuse me for not listing the things you should bring to Fort Riley for your two month stay there. I figured making a post out of the longer list (of things NOT to bring) would make for better reading, but I now realize how selfish that was.
The culture shock that hit me upon stepping into a middle prairie Wal-Mart to purchase all of the necessities I had neglected for my trip to the Little Apple was not something for the faint of heart. I survived that experience but I may be able to save you from it altogether."
