Iraq - The Children's Viewpoint
"During my first deployment to Iraq as a member of a Cavalry platoon, it was very common practice for us to hold a security perimeter for several hours. While in a security cordon, we were like magnets for Iraqi children. Even though we were covered from head to toe with armor and weapons of all kinds, the kids held no apprehensions towards starting a friendly conversation about soccer, the weather, or even American pop-culture. This always made me smile just a bit. Picture for a moment what it would be like if an American child went up to a member of a SWAT team during a drug bust only to ask who his favorite Beatle was."
