Hamas: Israel kills soldier captured by militants during airstrike

GAZA, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- Islamic Hamas movement's armed wing, al-Qassam Brigades, revealed on Monday that an Israeli warplane struck on a group of its militants who were kidnapping an Israeli soldier in northern Gaza Strip.
The group said in a statement sent to reporters by e-mail that four of al-Qassam militants succeeded to capture an Israeli soldier during a gun battle in northern Gaza Strip on Monday.

It added that "as the group was about to leave the area and take the kidnapped Israeli soldier, an Israeli warplane fired a rocket at the group and killed the soldier and the fighters."

"This time we failed to kidnap an Israeli soldier, but we are still planning to kidnap more in the future and we are completely certain that our attempts in the future will succeed," said al-Qassam Brigades.

Since Wednesday last week, Israel has been giving the Gaza population an everyday unilateral humanitarian cessation of attacks for three hours to enable them move and get their needs of humanitarian supplies.

Local medics said that 10 Palestinians were killed and 20 wounded during Israeli attacks on Monday, adding that the death toll is rising, which had already hit more than 900 killed and more than 4000 wounded since the beginning of the Israeli offensive on Gaza on Dec. 27.
