Georgia Soldiers Headed Back To Iraq

ATLANTA -- As we begin 2009, more Georgia soldiers were headed back to Iraq Friday evening. The men and women assigned to the 690th Medical Company at Fort Benning will spend the entire year in Iraq.

They're basically heavily armored emergency medical technicians, saving lives under fire in their ambulances. But, they are also regular Army -- very confident and accepting danger and multiple tours as part of the job. Though for their families, of course, it's not so easy.

They may be the most relaxed group of departing soldiers you'll ever see. Though only some 15 of the 67 members of the 690th have been to Iraq before, all seemed confident they're ready if they have to shoot with one hand and bandage with the other.

The emotions surfaced a few hours before, when they had to say goodbye to the ones they love.

But Sgt. Marion Wilson's sister tried to keep it light, with a cake for her brother on his 32nd birthday -- and some sibling trash-talk, to go with it.

This is Wilson's third tour in Iraq, which is very tough to explain to his nine year old son, Carlos Juwan.
