Fab Lab Surge and ABC News

"The Fab Lab team has arrived and is now hard at work. The logistics involved supporting their aggressive schedule is keeping me on the road for good bit of the New Year which helps explain the lack of activity on this blog. However things are calming down as Team Fab Lab hit its stride which is going to allow me the time to blog over the next few days which is good because I have a few things that I’d like to address. To start I want to plug the Jalalabad Fab Lab crew who have come here from around the world, on their own dime, because they feel that they have a very special project which could a model of how to bring the latest technology into the Stability Operations battle using education and technology. They are blogging daily and you can monitor their progress here. As you read what they are doing, fabricating antenna’s for sharing out bandwidth with local schools and NGO’s, raising the money to buy XO Laptops for every 6th grader at the local (Bagrami) school, repairing and re-wiring the expensive machines which have gone down due to dirty power, and setting the local kids up with a tee shirt business to fund Jalalabad operation, you will see these seven people are doing more in a couple weeks than most Americans, operating on multimillion US AID contracts, accomplish in a year. And all their efforts could easily be for naught if they cannot find funding to maintain the Fab Lab. What a crime that would be because they don’t need much and whoever funds this lab is going to see serious bang for the buck."
