Views from inside the glass- Baghdad for those whose bombing is an anecdote

"The first of three armored SUVs races ahead with its siren wailing. The second car holds us, assorted contractors inside, a third car guns forward as a kind of blocker when we hit intersections. The jam of Iraq sedans and mini-buses held in a motionless cue by the checkpoint while our convoy wails and speeds its way through. I watch their faces as our convoy roars into the intersection. Those whose scrunched brows and eyes show a kind of close scrutiny somewhere between glare and interest... "
