Wife writes blog for husband Cpt Robert Yllescas who was severely injured by an IED
(Milblogging.com) I received an email earlier today from my good online friend MaryEllen, sharing the story of CPT Robert Yllescas. MaryEllen writes: "Cpt Robert Yllescas, B Troop Commander, 6-4 CAV was severely injured by an IED. His wife, Dena has a blog to keep people updated on their condition. They have a 7 year old, and 9 month old daughter. Captain Yllescas is highly respected and loved by his men. We are supporting the 6-4 Cav, and while I don`t know Rob personally, he is part of the unit we support. Please keep this family and these Soldiers in your prayers and send positive thoughts their way. The recovery and healing process they have ahead of them is going to be very painful, slow, and expensive, their lives are forever changed. If you have time, go and read their story and feel free to leave a message of support. It is the kind words of strangers that can help someone get through their day."

One Military Blogger Revives Blog in Afghanistan, Another Writes for the First time
In his last post dated October 1, 2006, Station Commando (aka Recruiter) wrote: "As of Oct 1st 2006 this blog is totally shut down with all posts removed..."
Well, now he`s back online. This time from Afghanistan writing the blog titled Conversations in the Desert. On his revived blog, he writes: "I am an Infantry soldier. I was a recruiter for 4 years. Now I am serving in Afghanistan and loving every minute of it. Recruiting was the hardest job I`ve ever had to do and it cost me almost everything that was important to me."
Welcome back Station Commando! And thanks to ABWF f or the update. Read the entire story here.
How I Change The World
The January GX feature will be reader-generated. GX is asking Soldiers how they feel they make a difference with their Guard service in their country, community and across the world ... or "How I Change the World". GX is asking for one example from each Soldier. For example: "My name is SSG Joe Smith of the 1/163rd Infantry and while deployed to Iraq, I provided security for engineers who built a school for local children. Now they`ll be able to receive an education and pay it forward." GX also asks participating Soldiers to send us photos of themselves to go with their submission. These photos (300 dpi (or high quality) .jpgs) and submissions can be emailed to: Editor@GXonline.com
Submission deadline: November 10
National Guard Unit`s Military Blog Halted Before Iraq Deployment
Here`s a recent news story about a National Guard unit training up at Camp Shelby for a deployment to Iraq whose members were writing a military blog during their mobilization training. It`s nice to see an entire Company go online with a blog, but unforunately, the blog has been halted due to training, time, and other mission-critical constraints. I guess it`s sad news, especially for the family and friends of the soldiers, but hopefully the unit finds a way to pick up the blog once they get "boots on ground".

Angels Aim to Wrap the Troops in Bipartisan Holiday Spirit
During this season of intense political passions and partisanship, non-profit Soldiers` Angels offers Americans of all persuasions the patriotic opportunity to help ensure every service member in Iraq and Afghanistan receives a holiday gift of love and gratitude, through the 2008 Wrapped in Holiday Spirit care package drive. The shipping deadline is rapidly approaching, and additional donations are urgently needed.
This months news letter is so jam packed full of good stuff, I just posted the whole thing.
