The Gathering Storm

"Recently you may have seen reports of a visit by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadineja to several Latin American countries, most notably Hugo Chavez's Venezuela. Mr. Ahmadineja made the rounds of all the new and hip left-wing governments in South America.

So what, you may ask, does this have to do with the blog of Soldier in Iraq? Indulge me please.

One of the claims by the anti-war crowd is that Saddam Hussein was a secular Iraqi nationalist who would NEVER make common cause with the radical Islamists as represented by Osama bin Ladin and Al Qeada. Never mind the Iraqi Intelligence Service was linked to facilitation of the Kuala Lampur conference where it is believed the plan for September 11, 2001 were finalized (note: there is no evidence the Iraqi agents participated or knew what was discussed), the conventional wisdom has spoken, fundamentalist Islam and more secular ideologies will never work together."
