Getting Joe Darby’s Back

"
In 2004, then SPC Joseph Darby turned over photos of US Soldiers abusing prisoners at Abu Ghraib anonymously. For weeks afterward, the people responsible went through great pains to find out who turned them in. For weeks, Darby lived in fear that his co-workers would find out he was responsible and hurt or possibly kill him for it. It wasn’t until Defense Secretary Rumsfeld publicly lauded his actions in front of Congress that anyone knew who he was.

Since that day, Darby has been threatened, harrassed, and stalked by soldiers, friends and even family. People have called him a traitor. I’m willing to bet that’s not the worst thing he’s been called.

Fearing for their lives, they approached the Pentagon for protection. He is now required to live in protective military custody. No one knows where he lives or where he works.

This is just plain sad."
