"BLOODBATH IN IRAQ....In the LA Times today, A. Yasmine Rassam writes that Iran is out to dominate the Middle East: It makes sense, therefore, that the first line of defense against Iran's ambitions is a stable, democratic Iraq, which would provide a formidable counterbalance to Iran. A pro-Western Iraq that develops its economic ties throughout the Middle East and beyond would compete over growing markets for oil with Iranian economic interests. More important, a democratic Iraq would be a long-sought beacon for the oppressed Shiites of the world, an alternative to the appeal of extremist Iran.
That would be great! That is, it would be great if this outcome were actually possible given the policies being pursued by the George Bush administration. But with the possible exception of Norman Podhoretz (and James Inhofe!), even the hawkiest of the hawks aren't pretending any longer that we can keep order in Iraq, let alone make it into a beacon for oppressed Shiites, with the troops we have there now. The hawks also concede that no one is planning to send more troops there, and that we don't really have more troops available even if someone were inclined to send them. The only step the hawks don't take is to draw the obvious conclusion from these two observations."
Political Animal
These thing seem so obvious to me that I still don't understand why we have chosen the path that we have, outside of the "forest fire theory" I have no Idea what might be going thru the minds of those in charge. Unless they believe their own rhetoric about liberals rewarding failure, and are planning a monumental failure in Iraq to receive the electoral rewards back home..

SD,
Hey nice to see you too, I have a mission for you. There is some looking to make contact with her cosine in the 175 stryker the comment is here
Please see if there is anyway to help, at a minimum leave here a message there. Thanks
Ok Will, pubic service message done, what do you mean oh geeze..bloodbath, where have you been under some rock? Been touring the Republican campaign trail, working on the staff of the Rush show, I mean there are few places in this galaxy that have not heard of the bloodbath in Iraq, 3500 dead in a month, or some number whatever it actually is so large it refuses to register in my memory. oh geeze
Hey I hope you doing good, and that "yours" are safe and doing good works, send her a gun hoo! from me next time you talk.. see ya
Well regardless of the exact number it is surly an escalation of the violence. But believe you me that the fact that this escalation come right around the election cycle is not lost on me. There are a few mediating factors. One, this tactic was expected. We all read the reports that "they" were moving into the capital, all the warning signs were there in plain sight, it was clear to anyone that was watching that the capital was becoming the new front. Then there is the fact that again "they" can move at will, and openly move the front to their advantage. These are bad signs SD, why are we playing catch-up chasing them around, why do they seem to have the initiative?
I don't know, sometimes I feel like the command should be moved here to my house where I seem to have a better view of the battle field. Don't they see what's happening, or are they wearing blinders, and just chose not to react.
I think another factor that seems to give that enemy an advantage is that we seem to be holding back as each election approaches, they seem to have noticed that pattern and plan accordingly. It's my old complaint that the war is being managed to secure electoral results here at home, and now it would appear that the enemy is taking full advantage of this obvious weakness. If it was me and I was a lame duck president, the world would tremble beneath my feet.
And it's not just me. The bordering countries seem to see Iraq as disappearing and they seem to be positioning themselves to be in an good position to take full advantage and move it to take their piece. Turkey has 50,000 troops on the border and they seem poised to move in and take Mosul, Iran looks read to take the south, the Kurds look like they are moving into a defensive position to stop the Turks and Iran, and hold both Mosul and Kirkuk and to push Iran back over the boarder, or maybe even an attack from with Iran by a new PKK faction called J-something....I it not just me.
Wish yours good luck, and god speed from me. Watch her six and all that. And tell her to cross her "t" and dot the "i". We don't need any more stupid news from the front.
