"With the media's continuous coverage of the war in Lebanon, the President vetoed the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act of 2005 without much notice. The president explained the following as the reason to reject a bill that passed with 63-37 approval in the senate:And people wonder why the Afghan and Iraqi constitutions were written in such a way as to give so much authority to the religious institutions. It's clear that Bush is a theocrat and does not believe in the sovereignty of man or secular science, but in the sovereign church. The whole idea of separation is a completely foreign concept to Ayatollah W. Bush."This bill would support the taking of innocent human life in the hope of finding medical benefits for others," Bush said in announcing his veto. "It crosses a moral boundary that our decent society needs to respect."The president obviously wanted to please the ultra-conservatives and the Vatican with his first veto. I understand him trying to please his base of staunch voters. But, since when does the president cares about the Vatican? "
