There's something about that Iraqi chair
"Who does Ibrahim Jaafari see when he looks in the mirror these days? Jaafari is the current interim prime minister of Iraq, but I wonder if he sees a simple politician or the image of a prime minister for life. One of the major stumbling blocks in Iraq's difficult attempt to create a national unity government has been Jaafari's refusal thus far to consider stepping aside to allow for another candidate more acceptable to secular Iraqis, to Kurds, to Sunnis, and lately to many other Shiites as well.
A dear friend in Baghdad recently said that she wished she could sit in the chair of Iraq's leader just once. Why? She wants to see what makes it so irresistible that nobody has seemed willing to relinquish the damn thing for generations."
