"OK, maybe not senseless. Maybe I wasn’t really beaten at all, but I firmly believe I could have been.
I was going about my daily business Tuesday when I overheard someone jabbering with my driver, Corporal Andrey Marcus, about the large fixed blade knife he always carries attached to his belt. When I say large, I mean large – about 14”. I think it’s actually more of a small sword, perhaps a cousin of the defensive short sword that Jesus admonished the disciples to carry, even at the expense of their garments. At any rate, I joked at Marcus about what possible use such an instrument could have. At that point one of the other Marines at work nudged me and said “Sir, Marcus is a pretty good stick fighter.” “A stick fighter?” I exclaimed. “Yes, sir,” piped up Marcus, “I carry it more for use as a small sword than anything.”"
Midnight in Iraq
I was always good at that, I mean kids on the block type of stick fighting.
