Ringing the alarm for Iraq
"Iraq’s continuing efforts to agree on a prime minister have made for
some interesting speculations in recent days. The usual suspects in the media may be giving their audience the sense that political infighting is another sign that Iraq is slipping away. But if people were to listen to more Iraqis and fewer Western
"experts," they would see how wrong the talking heads have been.
For example, the AP reports that vice president Adel Abdul Mehdi
signed a decree calling parliament to hold a session as early as Sunday.
And Al Rafidayn quotes a spokesman for the SCIRI as saying that they have asked for a delay for the parliamentary session in order to choose a new candidate for prime minister.
The least informed of the "experts," Juan Cole, has decided that it
isn’t a very good idea for Iraqis to try to find a new prime minister
at this time. He wrote on his blog:"
