Secularists among the believers

"A friend asked me about a recent posting by Iraq the Model that said the Sunni groups had joined up with Ayad Allawi in the post-election negotiations. The question was, does that mean the Sunni groups have been secularized? Well, that's a good question. But the funny thing about the Sunni politicians is that many pretend to be religious. That is, many were active Baathists until literally a couple of years ago.

The New York Times has a story about the curious ideology of some of the insurgents. They are labeled as Sunni fighters, but their motivation is a secular one. And, they are fighting the Zarqawi terrorists. One guerrilla fighter is quoted as saying he's happy when Americans kill members of Al Qaeda."

Yeah, did you read the NYT article about the insurgent and Al-Qaeda battles? I thought it was a very interesting piece. I found it very interesting that an insurgent would say he is happy when Americans kill Al-Qaeda. Cool blog and stop by if you have a chance.
