Roadside bomb kills Danish soldier in southern Iraq

"BAGHDAD, Sept. 1 (Xinhuanet) -- A Danish soldier was killed and two were seriously wounded when a roadside bomb struck their military vehicle outside the southern city of Basra on Saturday, an Interior Ministry source said.

"A roadside bomb detonated near a Danish patrol in Hartha area outside Basra, killing a soldier and seriously wounding two others," the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

The victim was the first Danish soldier killed in a hostile attack since the start of the US-led war on Iraq in March 2003.

Denmark has deployed 500 soldiers under the command of British troops around Basra, the second largest city in Iraq. Enditem"
